Using Color on the Web

Audio Script:

Color can be tricky to get right no matter what you project is—painting a room, choosing colors in a logo or matching the colors of your clothes. Here are some tips to helping you with using color on the web.

  • Narrow down your color choices. Just because you have millions of colors available, it doesn't mean that you should use them all. Create a color palette of 3–4 coordinating colors to use on your website. The web-safe color palette is great for helping you narrow down your color choices.
  • Colors evoke emotion. Make sure the color you choose reflects the emotion that you want to project. For example, red means anger or heat and blue means calm and cool.
  • Use colors consistently on every page of your site—text, backgrounds, buttons, links, graphics.
