Depending on the purpose of your site, the background color will make a big impact on effectiveness. Here are some examples of background colors to avoid.
- Dark backgrounds. If your site has a large amount of text, having a dark background and light-colored text will make it harder to read. Also, if a visitor wants to print your website page, the printer will drop out the background color and only print the text. If your text color is light or white, nothing will print.
- Heavily textured or patterned backgrounds. A dark texture or pattern will interfere with the text and make it hard, or even impossible, to read. Light-colored or muted textures or pattern are better to use.
- Bright backgrounds. Very bright or neon colors are very hard on the eyes and can get annoying. Use more neutral colors behind text instead.
