  • used to help the instructor understand the student learning
  • to modify instruction if that learning is not as expected or desired

Summative Assessments

  • used at the end of a phase/lesson/course to determine how the overall program performed.
  • used to determine final student progress and often lead to grades
  • used to modify course materials, but not during the course.
